Humor, snark, hilarious situations, suspense, zombies, gore, friendship, and a really hot smexy scene to top it off. Their relationship develops from friendship, to trust to something more. El Presidio Rides North (2011) by Domashita Romero (Favorite Author) 4. I got an instant feel for both Mercury and Gaga. The writing is excellent, and the characters feel real. I think it’s perfect from beginning to end. It really is amazing how much character this short story has.

Hoping to have better chances of surviving and meet up with other survivors they start driving north to Canada. Introducing each other with their real names is too personal, so “Mercury” name himself, and “Gaga” for “Gaga”. With living people few and far between, Mercury offers Gaga a ride in his RV-home-turned-mobile-zombie-fortress, aka El Presidio. Mercury, a hot tattooed badass with a bit of good-natured crazy thrown in, comes across Gaga in the fast food joint’s bathroom, and rescues him from certain zombie death. The story starts right of the bat with Gaga, a young, slight and tender guy, getting attacked by a zombie when he has to take a leak (even in a zombie apocalypse, if you gotta go, you gotta go). But ‘Mercury’ also comes with an RV that doubles as a zombie-proof fortress, and almost any company is better than none-even if that company has a cute nickname for his nailgun, and inflicts him with the name ‘Gaga’.Ī post-apocalyptic story with lots of character and humor, and of course zombies. A man who doesn’t really want company, and definitely isn’t interested in sharing names.

On the verge of death by zombie in a public restroom, a young man is saved at the last minute by a shovel-and the intriguing man who wields it.
